Clean drinking water is essential to our great standard of living. Far North Queensland Regional Organisation of Councils and Coogee work together to ensure quality water is delivered into Queensland homes and businesses.
Councils in Far North Queensland play a key role in ensuring the delivery of a high quality water supply chain, including water purification and sourcing reliable supply of water treatment additives.
As part of this supply chain, Coogee continues to invest in infrastructure in Far North Queensland to make this objective possible with the opening of a new Coogee Water Treatment Depot in Ponzo Street, Cairns.
Coogee are excited to be working closely with the Far North Queensland Regional Organisation of Councils to ensure high quality and secure water can be delivered across the region. Coogee have invested $2,800,000 in the new depot with 150,000 L of storage for Sodium Hypochlorite, a dedicated truck, 2 full time staff based in Cairns, and the ability to receive product by both rail and road to ensure year round reliable supply.
Representatives from Councils around Far North Queensland attended the depot in August to see first-hand the exciting new infrastructure. Council officers then met with Coogee staff at Cairns Regional Council to receive an update on the latest advances and procedures in water treatment.
Regional Procurement Coordinator Amanda Hancock said “the FNQ Regional Organisation of Councils are thrilled with the additional investment in our region, it provides not only additional employment but also further safeguards the regions drinking water after a natural event which impacts transport networks.”
Water purification and treatment is key and requires reliable supply of additives. CEO Grant Lukey said, “Coogee continues to invest in infrastructure in North Queensland to assist Far North Queensland Regional Organisation of Council’s water treatment objectives with the opening of the new Coogee Depot in Cairns.”
It was a very successful day for all involved. A big thank you to the Far North Queensland Regional Organisation of Councils for hosting the event and making the day possible.
