Sodium Ethylxanthates Solution
What is it?
Sodium Ethyl Xanthate is a clear orange liquid with an unpleasant odour. Synonyms include carbonodithioic acid o-ethyl ester, SEX, sodium ethyl dithiocarbamate, and sodium ethyl xanthate. Xanthates are produced when carbon disulfide reacts with sodium or potassium hydroxide and an alcohol, most commonly ethanol, isobutyl alcohol or amyl alcohol.
Where is it applied?
Xanthates are commonly used as a gold processing reagent, and in ore flotation. In addition, xanthates can be used to manufacture cellulose film (cellophane) and rayon, but in Australia they are exclusively used as a collector for the extraction of sulphide minerals.
