Specialised Bulk Liquid Dangerous Goods Transport
Coogee Chemicals offers all of its Western Australian customers a transport service from its manufacturing plants and tank terminals to the point of use.
Over the past twenty years, Coogee has seen their fleet grow and take full advantage of innovations and statutory regulations to the point where they now have a domestic fleet of 17 prime movers and over sixty items of trailing equipment, including in excess of thirty dedicated dangerous goods road tankers.
Coogee Chemicals Transport operates its domestic fleet from Kwinana, south of Perth in Western Australia to all points in WA from Albany and Esperance in the south, through all points of the eastern Goldfields and Gascoyne, through to the north-west of the state to Telfer gold mine and Nifty copper mine.
Liquid Cyanide Transport
Through our AGR (Australian Gold Reagents) joint venture agreement, Coogee Chemicals transport liquid cyanide to remote mine sites throughout WA as far as Wiluna in the state’s centre is transported by road from the metro area. Specially constructed ISO-tainers are hauled on drop-deck trailers with ten-wheel dog-trailers specifically designed to transport two low-deck ISO-tainers at a time within the legal “Pocket Road Train” length of 27.5 metres unique to WA.
Our Drivers
All drivers in the Coogee Chemicals Transport fleet are trained and licensed in the carriage of dangerous goods, National Police security cleared and trained thoroughly both in the use of multiple combination heavy vehicles and the various products transported. Coogee is proud of the commitment our driver’s exhibit and the professionalism that has seen our drivers poll significantly in the state’s professional driver awards over the past few years. In the past, Coogee Chemicals Transport personnel have won the BP Professional Driver of the Year - 2004, the Department of Industry and Resources Dangerous Goods Driver of the Year – 2004, and the Operations Excellence 2004 Award.
Coogee operates a substantial presence between the Fremantle Wharf and Kewdale and Kwinana Rail depots, moving over 2000 containers and ISO-tainers every year, the large proportion being dangerous goods. Some of this wharf transport has seen the need for security clearances and specific training for our personnel, pertinent to the handling of Ammonium Nitrate between the wharf and security storage facilities. Dry goods and IBC transport is performed in our modern taut-liner trailers (as pictured), which are gated fully and have mezzanine floors within the curtains to facilitate safe dangerous goods transport at all times.
Strong Reputation
Coogee Chemicals Transport has developed to become a transport provider of choice amongst the users of dangerous goods and chemical transport in WA. With an unblemished safety record and no reportable road-related incidents to their domestic fleet’s reputation, Coogee has attracted a great number of customers like Alcoa of Australia, CSBP/Wesfarmers, WA Water Corporation, Toll International, Mitchell West, Western Mining Corporation, BHP-B, Millennium, Tiwest, Nufarm Ltd, Newcrest Mining, Transwest Haulage, Summit Fertilizers and Exxon Chemicals.
A growing customer-base makes daily requests for Coogee to address their transport requirements from fuels, solvents, poisons, oils and controlled wastes (as licensed by the Department of Environment), to Anhydrous Ammonia and even distilled water. Coogee Chemicals can become your total dangerous goods logistics solution.
Reagents Plants
Mine-site based Chemical Reagents Plants
Coogee currently operates two Chemical Reagents Plants situated in Queensland and Western Australia. The largest plant is at Century Zinc Mine where we handle all of the chemical reagents for the operation of the concentrator circuit.
The chemical management function has been separated out allowing the mine metallurgy team to concentrate on mineral recovery, whilst the Chemical experts at Coogee look after the supply of chemicals to the process train.
In the ultimate reagents plant we are responsible for supplying all the reagents at a guaranteed strength on a 24x7 basis. Typically the reagents are delivered through a ring main to the process circuit (eg Concentrator). The metallurgy team then take over responsibility for dosing the chemicals and focusing on optimising the recovery whilst not having to worry about the supply of chemicals.
At Coogee Chemicals, we offer customers a total logistics package which includes the supply of chemicals, handling, mixing and pumping. Alternatively, chemicals can be supplied by the mine, leaving Coogee to take care of the handling and delivery of the reagents. A combination of these two options is also available.
Century Zinc Reagent Plant
In June 1999, Coogee Chemicals commissioned the reagents plant at the Pasminco Century Zinc mine. Since that date we have had a 100% supply record for chemical reagents to the concentrator. Over this period of time, our team at Century has become an integrated part of the concentrator operations team.
The plant is responsible for maintaining consistent reagent strength to the concentrator as well as ensuring that raw materials are supplied on time.
Magellan Metals Reagent Plant
Magellan Metals have developed a lead carbonate deposit 30km West of Wiluna. The process at the mine site involves crushing, grinding, flotation and filtration to produce a lead carbonate concentrate for export. Phase 2 of the development will include a lead smelter at the site.
Coogee supplies the reagents in solution form, meaning that Magellan does not have to dissolve solids on their site allowing them to save on capital investment, labour and disposal costs.
We offer a total supply service combining Coogee’s skills in sourcing of raw materials, production operations, transport operations and engineering.
The development of the proposal, arrangement of logistics, and definition and design of production operations, transport and storage solutions has been a team effort across the Business Development, Production, Engineering and Transport groups. This has resulted in a commercially viable and beneficial reagent supply deal for the customer.
Project Engineering Team
Coogee Chemicals’ in-house Projects Group provide engineering services that take concepts through to reality for Coogee to provide products and services for its customers. The group covers all phases of the project cycle from identification to design and engineering then commissioning and operation.
The benefits of Coogee’s Project Group over engineering service providers is an integrated approach with customers and the experience of designing, constructing and operating plants that are tailored to the requirements of products and services that Coogee provide.
