Mt Isa, QLD
Coogee Chemicals (Mt Isa) Pty Ltd: This Coogee Chemicals subsidiary company is the largest producer of copper sulphate in Australia. Product is supplied to Xstrata-Mt. Isa and Pasminco Century Zinc in Northwest Queensland and to the MacArthur River Mine in the Northern Territory.
Mt Isa Xanthate Plant: A 3,000 tpa Xanthates plant was constructed in Mt Isa during 2001. The plant produces flotation reagents for base metal production in the northwest Queensland minerals province.
Laverton, VIC
The Coogee Methanol plant in Laverton Victoria is the only methanol plant in Australia, supplying approximately 80% of Australia’s methanol requirements.
The plant is based on the Leading Concept Methanol process, which was developed by Johnson Matthey Catalysts in the UK. This plant was originally constructed by BHP Petroleum to research and develop offshore methanol production.
Studies indicate that this novel technology has the highest efficiency and lowest capital cost of all comparable methanol production technologies currently available. Recent development work by both Coogee and Johnson Matthey Catalysts has been carried out on one of the key aspects of the technology, the Advanced Gas Heated Reformer. This has further improved the technology, and the plant is now capable of sustained operation at 150% of original design capacity.
